With the Edge bike computers produces Garmin very reliable bike navigational systems, which cyclists appreciate especially on longer bike trips. As hobby bikers, we are also impressed by the large display, the versatile navigation functions, and the touchscreen’s response.
As good as the Garmin bike navigator is, we are not convinced by Garmin’s original handlebar mount. We find that the device sits well in the holder, but there are a few small things that are annoying in the long run. Therefore, we decided to develop our own 3D-printed handlebar mount, with which we can solve some problems.
Problem 1: The original handlebar mount for Garmin is not 100 % centred
With the Garmin handlebar mount, the bike computer cannot always be centred in relation to the stem. Especially with a wide stem, the device is often tilted. We have designed our handlebar mount so that it is mounted before or after the stem/handlebar and enables 100% centred alignment with the stem (up to a stem width of 50 mm).
Problem 2: With the original handlebar bracket, you often have to reorganise your handlebar
The original bracket can only be mounted on one side, depending on whether you install the bracket before or after the stem/handlebar. Our handlebar holder can be mounted on both the left and right of the stem.
Problem 3: Reading angle cannot be adjusted without remounting the complete bracket
Due to the design of the original bracket, the inclination on the handlebar can only be adjusted in the longitudinal direction and on the stem only in the transverse direction. This restriction does not exist with our bracket. We have designed an additional component so that the cyclist can set an optimal reading angle.
Problem 4: The original Garmin mount does not fit optimally for a slightly thinner handlebar
The adjustment occurs only through a further underlay of a rubber reducer.
We have specifically designed our mount for handlebars with a diameter of 31.8 mm and 25.4 mm and, if required, we can also adapt it for handlebars with a diameter of 26 mm, 25.8 mm, as well as 22.2 mm.
Advantages of our handlebar mount compared to Garmin handlebar mount:
Our handlebar mount is 3D printed. We have chosen ASA filament because this plastic convinces with its high resistance to heat, UV radiation, moisture and numerous chemicals. As a result, the 3D ASA objects survive extreme weather conditions without affecting colour or shape.
There are some manufacturers, which have copied the original Garmin mount and offer it at a lower price. Nevertheless, these have the same problems as the original product. Our handlebar mount is unique in construction and can score with the above advantages.
